Teeth Whitening Tips

Teeth Whitening Methods

If you are looking to whiten and brighten your smile, there are many teeth whitening methods available. Many of the professional teeth whitening methods are expensive and are done through multiple trips to the dentist. Other, more affordable, teeth whitening methods can be done at home.

Laser Teeth Whitening

This professional teeth whitening process consists of the cleaning and removal of any plaque along the gum line, followed by the application of a peroxide gel. Then a special laser light is used to activate the gel to whiten the teeth. Dentists claim that this process can whiten teeth by as many as 10 shades in one sitting. The cost for laser teeth whitening can vary drastically from dentist to dentist depending on the technology used and your desired level of whiteness. Often this method can cost in excess of $2,000.

Professional Teeth Bleaching

A special teeth bleaching gel is applied at the dentist office, followed by a special activating light. This procedure usually takes about two hours and costs less than $1000. Patients are given a home bleaching kit for a self follow-up treatment.

Custom Tray Bleaching

Patients go to the dentist office to be fitted with a custom mouth tray. They are given a bleaching gel which is placed in the tray and worn for a period of time each day. This period is normally two hours but sometimes can be overnight. This procedure is a more gradual process than the previously mentioned methods and takes weeks for patients to see the full whitening effect. The cost, however, is much less than the other professional treatments.

At-Home Whitening Methods

There are several over-the-counter products you can use to whitening your teeth at home, including pastes, overnight gels and tray methods. When choosing a method, consider the cost of teeth whitening. At Makeup.com, you can find affordable teeth whitening systems from top brands such as GoSMILE.

Teeth Whitening Side Effects

Many professional teeth whitening bleaching methods use hydrogen peroxide. Dentists use hydrogen peroxide in concentrations ranging from 15 percent to 35 percent in conjunction with a light or laser to accelerate the whitening process. Often people are worried about the side effects and possible damage that can be caused from its use.

These levels of hydrogen peroxide are approved safe by the ADA. However, there are some side effects. The most common include temporary tooth sensitivity, painful gums and aching teeth. These problems normally subside very shortly after the procedure. On very rare occasions, irreversible or long-term tooth damage has been reported.

Because of the intensity of professional tooth whitening treatments, many people opt to use at-home products which are used over a period of weeks, rather than one or two hours. Since the whitening procedure is spread out over time, you may find you experience fewer side effects with home treatments.

At Makeup.com, you can buy a variety of home teeth whitening products from brands such as GoSMILE.

GoSMILE B1 Teeth Whitening Kit

If you are looking for a safe and effective tooth whitening system, consider the GoSMILE B1 Teeth Whitening Kit.

All GoSMILE products were professionally formulated by Jonathan B. Levine, DMD. GoSMILE B1 uses a concentrated active ingredient that stays on teeth four times longer than most home teeth whitening gels. Because of its concentration, you will get effective, long lasting results. The GoSMILE gel comes in a variety of delicious flavors that don't taste like chemicals or bleach.

The GoSMILE B1 teeth whitening system contains single dose ampoules that you paint directly on your teeth using the built-in applicator. The targeted application allows you to use more of the product on problem teeth. Each B1 kit contains 20 ampoules, though you will only need to use 14 of them to complete the process. Also included is an instructional DVD/CD where Dr. Levine explains the technology and method of the GoSMILE system.

You can purchase the GoSMILE B1 system, as well as GoSMILE refill ampoules and toothpaste products at Makeup.com.
